A doumbek is a small, goblet-shaped drum popular in the musics of the North African, Mediterranean, Middle Eastern and Eastern European regions.
Instruction begins with a focus on hand positioning, playing techniques, and practice strategies. Students learn common bellydance rhythms, simple notation, and a set of verbal cues for communicating with musicians and dancers.
About the Instructor
Decades ago in a freak incident, a funky rhythm escaped a parading marching band and took possession of three-year-old Tara Severns, forever altering her brain chemistry and sealing her fate; Now she's a mild-mannered librarian by day; a wild-eyed percussionist by night. Tara has studied and performed a variety of drumming styles from around the world. She is a member of the Tamr Henna Ensemble. |
